Today we begin the season of Lent.

Lent is the forty weekdays & the inclusive Sundays of preparation before Easter. It is traditionally a time of introspection & penitence but it does not have to be solemn. The purpose of Lent is to move closer to God. The traditional question, “What are you giving up for Lent?” can be the wrong question when it focuses on sacrifice for the sake of sacrifice. The better question is, “What are you going to do to bring you closer to God?”

Some try a new spiritual practice. Some “give up” something that gets in the way of closeness with God. What about you? What will you do to bring you closer in-tune with God?

Ash Wednesday service is at noon today. Please join us if you’re able.

As we journey through Lent toward Easter, we will remember God’s covenant with all of God’s people. Using the colors of the rainbow (non-liturgical) we will remember and explore the promises from God. (The liturgical color of purple will remain consistent on the communion table throughout the season.)

As part of our lenten journey, please read the indicated Bible passage before worship each week and join the adult Bible study. Also, please wear the weekly color as indicated if you’re able.

Bible Study & Worship are a Go

hopeinwinter-001.jpgThe building is warm though the roads are a bit wintry. Join us this morning at 9:00 for Bible Study. (We’re looking at two healing stories in the gospel of John.) Then, join us for worship at 10:30. We will Skype with Maggie Sebastian who will share observations and answer our questions about her ongoing month-long trip to Guatemala.

As much as we’d like you to join us this morning, if you do not feel safe walking or driving to the church, please stay safe at home. Your safety is more important than your presence today.
