Opening the Promise: A Lenten Journey at Condon UCC

Screen Shot 2014-02-26 at 10.16.07 AMLent is the forty weekdays & the inclusive Sundays of preparation before Easter. It is traditionally a time of introspection & penitence but it does not have to be solemn. The purpose of Lent is to move closer to God. The traditional question, “What are you giving up for Lent?” can be the wrong question when it focuses on sacrifice for the sake of sacrifice. The better question is, “What are you going to do to bring you closer to God?”

Some try a new spiritual practice. Some “give up” something that gets in the way of closeness with God. What about you?

As we journey through Lent toward Easter, we will remember God’s covenant with all of God’s people. Using the colors of the rainbow (non-liturgical) we will remember and explore the promises from God. (The liturgical color of purple will remain consistent on the communion table throughout the season.)

As part of our lenten journey, please read the indicated Bible passage before worship each week and join the adult Bible study. Also, please wear the weekly color as indicated if you’re able.
