As we continue our summer worship series on the Psalms, featuring special music by Seth Brewster, we turn to Psalm 113.
This psalm not only lifts up God, but describes some of the reasons praise & worship are merited. As we’ve seen in other parts of both the elder and younger testaments, God appears to have a preference for the downtrodden, for the oppressed, and the poor. What does this mean to the rest of us? Does God play favorites? What does it mean when liberation theologians claim that God has a “preferential option for the poor?”
Please prayerfully read and meditate on the 113th Psalm. You can read it in your favorite translation or from the Common English Bible here.
