Blankets of Love

Blankets of Love

Our goal is to raise enough funds for at least twenty-five blankets by Mothers’ Day. Will you help? Each blanket costs $10 and is shared with refugees, those in disaster areas, or in other areas of need.

1 (1)4oh!4, envisioned as a place where folks of various backgrounds can talk about matters of spirituality over a simple meal, meets for the first time Sunday afternoon at 4:04 p.m.

The Facebook page of 4oh!4 describes it as “spirituality without pressure: no sermons, no pressure, no baloney.” For more information visithttp://www.facebook.com/4oh4Condon, email 4oh4Condon@gmail.com, or call or text 541-256-0565.

temp_file_15699056_BG12_381_297_c1Imagine a brother or sister who is naked and never has enough food to eat. What if one of you said, “Go in peace! Stay warm! Have a nice meal!”? What good is it if you don’t actually give them what their body needs? In the same way, faith is dead when it doesn’t result in faithful activity. (James 2:15-17 CEB)

Friends:

With SNAP benefits (food stamps) cut as of today (see http://takingnote.blogs.nytimes.com/2013/11/01/eviscerating-the-food-stamps-program/?emc=edit_tnt_20131102&tntemail0=y&_r=1 for more information), we need to be aware of how this effects real people in our own community and respond as Jesus would respond. As we know, our local pantry is already serving a very large number of folks.

My suggestion is that we dedicate the second Sunday of each month as a time to collect food and non-food items for our Food Pantry. Beginning next week, I will have a basket available in the narthex. Please place your items in it as you arrive or drop them off earlier in the week. We will carry the basket of food up with offering and bless it before taking it to the Pantry.

If you open your heart to the hungry, and provide abundantly for those who are afflicted, your light will shine in the darkness, and your gloom will be like the noon. (Isaiah 58:10 CEB)

Condon UCC Celebrates World Communion Sunday

Condon UCC Celebrates World Communion Sunday

Condon UCC will celebrate World Communion Sunday this week. On October 6th, along with other Christians from around the world, we will share in commemorating the meal Jesus ate with his disciples before his arrest. We recognize that though different churches may disagree on exactly what happens at the Table, we are all followers of Jesus. We are all created in the image of God and are beloved. We are one human family.

If you are looking for a place to worship this Sunday, join us at 10:30.
